TuJu real-time traffic

TuJu is meant to show highway traffic from the Malaysian Highway Authority and the concessionaires, plus cameras at selected points. Here is what that covers, and how to tell a live map from an empty one.

Where the data comes from

TuJu's product page says the traffic picture is assembled from LLM, highway operators, community contributions that have been checked, and devices along the road. The Works Ministry's launch note is more specific about one pipe: toll and traffic reports direct from LLM's traffic monitoring centre (TMC). Deputy director-general Dr Mohammed Ridzuan Jahidin later told reporters the emphasis is on supplying traffic information, rather than depending on drivers to file reports the way a crowd-sourced app does.

Those statements are not identical. One mentions checked community input. One stresses official feeds. In practice, treat the map as an official highway picture that may also contain vetted reports, and assume it is thinnest where LLM and the concessionaire have the fewest sensors. City streets and roads outside the peninsular highway network were never the brief. The product site says Peninsular Malaysia highways.

Before you leave

Open TuJu while you are still at home on a festive morning, a Friday evening out of Kuala Lumpur, or any school-holiday balik kampung. Look at the stretch you will actually drive, not at a national overview. If a camera covers the interchange you dread, watch a few seconds of it. If the app shows an accident or a roadblock on Android 2.0, decide then whether to leave earlier or pick another window.

Pair the phone with something that still works when the phone does not: the variable message signs on the highway, and a radio traffic desk. LLM's own outage note on 22 October 2026 is the reminder. A popular app can be the thing that fails on the morning everyone opens it.

On the road

Use the traffic view to decide whether to stay on this highway or leave for an R&R, not to weave. A passenger can refresh a camera. The driver should be listening for a prompt and watching the brake lights. If the spoken prompt is only "keep straight" while the gantry names three exits, the traffic layer is not your problem anymore. The instruction is. Follow the sign.

Toll announcements, where the build has them, are a traffic decision too. A cheap route that is stopped is not cheap. The figure is still an estimate. Confirm the mode of payment you actually have before the plaza, not in it.

When the map looks empty

An empty map can mean a quiet road. It can also mean the feed is down. On 22 October 2026 SoyaCincau reported that they could not find a usable live traffic layer, on the same day LLM apologised for disruptions and said capacity was being restored. If you see no incidents anywhere, including on a highway you know is busy, do not read that as an all-clear. Check a camera. If the camera is black too, assume you do not have a live picture.

Update the app and try again later. Send a note to feedback@prosignalconsortium.my if a stretch stays blank for days. The steps for a crashed or frozen app are on the troubleshooting page.
